Saturday 5th March

My visit to Mote Park was made at mid-morning today. Despite the sky being overcast the light was still relatively bright.

Goat Willow

7 Nuthatch were noted, 3 Great Spotted Woodpecker were heard, a Green Wooodpecker called, 4 Goldcrest were found, 1 Coal Tit was calling, 2 Treecreeper called, a few Siskin could be heard in the North-east woodland at the foot of Jenner's Bank, a Blackcap was heard in subsong from the hedge on the Lake's eastern edge - presumably a wintering bird, and a new for the year - a Kestrel was seen in the rough grassland north of the River Len, a Cormorant flew west, a Grey Wagtail flew from the Old Pond, and 2 Pied Wagtails were seen in the parkland west of Mote House - another new bird for the year.

Kestrel

Around 28 Common Gulls, at least 200 Black-headed Gulls, at least 6 adult Mediterranean Gulls, and 2 adult Lesser Black-backed Gulls were seen, and of particular note on the Lake were 10 Pochard, 6 Great Crested Grebe, and 5 Mute Swan.
