Wednesday 5th January

I made a visit to the park first thing this morning, and how lovely it was to see the sunshine again!!! An absolutely gorgeous morning!

4 Goldcrests were noted, 2 Treecreepers were seen, 2 Nuthatch were heard, a Great Spotted Woodpecker called, a Green Woodpecker was seen at the top of Jenner's Bank, lots of Siskin were seen and heard, and 5 Redwing were seen.

Common Snipe (centre of photo)

At the Old Pond was a Common Snipe (new for the year) and a Water Rail. (I have been told that at lunch-time the GREEN SANDPIPER and the JACK SNIPE were also showing!). Along the River Len a Grey Wagtail was seen between the two bridges, 1 Little Grebe was seen, 2 Grey Herons were noted, and a Cormorant flew east.

Grey Heron

The gull flock on the Lake had increased in number to 270+ Black-headed Gulls, 33+ Common Gulls and a single Herring Gull. Wildfowl on the Lake included 2 Gadwall, 4 Wigeon, and Tufted Duck and Pochard.

Simon ,
Don't know where your sunshine came from , it was grey and dank again up on the Greensand Ridge .
Might have to make another trip for 'Jack' .
