A hard frost had crystallised almost everything this morning, and the sun was set in beautiful blue sky making the park feel very spring-like.
Frosty Oak
3 Goldcrests were noted, 6 Treecreeper was seen, 2 Nuthatch were heard calling, a Great Spotted Woodpecker drummed from an Alder along the River Len, at least 6 Redwing were seen, 5 Jay were seen, 3 Green Woodpecker were heard, several Siskin were noted along the River Len, 3 Cormorants were seen flying over, a Skylark was spotted flying west over the rough grassland south of the River Len, and a Stock Dove was heard.
Snowdrops
2 Moorhen were the only notable birds seen in the old pond, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Water Rail, 2 drake Teal, and a Mute Swan were found along the River Len, and of particular note on the Lake was at least 21 Pochard, 18 Tufted Duck – the highest number this year – 2 Great Crested Grebes, 1 Little Grebe, and a Mute Swan. The gull flock consisted of at least 65 Black-headed Gulls and 24 Common Gulls. Unfortunately I ran out of time to visit the top playing field where most of the gulls were roosting.

Run out of time! On such a terrific morning too. I need some of those ducks and grebes over here Simon.
Simon ,
Looks like your 100mm lens was doing overtime this morning .
Great shots .
Hi Simon.
Seeing as you wasn't there that long you did well seeing what you did. I use to go to Mote Park years ago with my wife for walks, but I haven't been there for yonks. I really must pay it a visit as I have yet to see a Goldcrest this year. Sounds like I have been missing out for years.
Warren; it is very frustrating running out of time! I've got so much Uni work to do at the moment I shouldn't really go over the park at all!!!
Ken; if you ever want a fellow blogger to show you the best spots to see Goldcrest I'd be happy to help?
