Monday 15th February

It was a beautiful sunny morning today during a quick morning visit – a welcome change to the grey cloudy weather of late. There was a hard frost on the ground and a thin layer of ice covered most of the Lake.

4 Goldcrests were noted, a Treecreeper was heard singing by the old pond, 3 Nuthatch were calling, a Great Spotted Woodpecker called, a few Redwing called as they passed over the Len, 2 Jay were seen, the Little Owl was perched in the old Oak west of Mote House, a Coal Tit was singing along Laurel Walk, and 2 Bullfinch called by the Georgian Steps.

Only a Moorhen was seen feeding in the old pond, 2 Cormorants were perched on the island next to the Weir Bridge, and on the Lake was at least 16 Pochard, 4 Tufted Duck and 2 Mute Swan. The gull flock consisted of at least 70 Black-headed Gulls and 22 Common Gulls. Neither Med Gull nor Jack Snipe were seen.
