Friday 19th December

It was bright and frosty first thing today, with no cloud at all in the sky.

3 Goldcrests were seen, 2 Coal Tits were singing along Laurel Walk, a Green Woodpecker called by the Miniature Railway, 3 Great Spotted Woodpecker was heard calling, 2 Nuthatch were heard calling, a flock of Long-tailed Tits were feeding in the willows on the western edge of the Lake, the Little Owl was sitting just outside its hole, and 2 Treecreeper was seen.

Little Owl

Birds of particular note on the Lake were 4 Great Crested Grebes, 2 Mute Swan, 4 Canada Geese, 3 Tufted Duck, 7 Pochard, and 6 Cormorants. The gull flock produced at least 76 Black-headed Gull and 31 Common Gulls. Also seen were 5 Grey Herons, 3 Kingfishers were seen along the River Len, a Water Rail was spotted running along the river bank by the footbridge, 1 Grey Wagtail by the pond and a Little Egret was seen catching fish in the stream running into the pond - the second bird I have seen this year.

Little Egret

Well done with the Little Egret Simon. Isn't it annoying with the light so bad!!
