Tuesday 16th December

It was cold, dull and misty first thing today.

Blackbird

5 Goldcrests were seen, 3 Nuthatch were heard calling, a Herring Gull flew north, there were at least 36 Siskin in the Alders close to the London Plane tree along the River Len, a Green Woodpecker was feeding in the short grass by Mote House, 3 Great Spotted Woodpeckers were seen, a few flocks of Long-tailed Tit were seen, a Treecreeper was seen shuffling up an Alderalong the River Len, a Pheasant called from the marsh area, and 5 Redwing were on the Pitch & Putt.

Birds of particular note on the Lake were 7 Great Crested Grebes, 1 Mute Swan, 2 Canada Geese, 6 Tufted Duck, 13 Pochard, and 3 Cormorants. The gull flock produced at least 57 Black-headed Gull, 1 juvenile Herring Gull and 26 Common Gulls. Also seen were 4 Grey Herons, 1 Grey Wagtail next to the pond, a Mediterranean Gull flew west over the Alders as I watched the Siskins, and a Water Rail showed briefly along the River Len.

You did well to get the camera on the Water Rail , and yes , I know what you mean about Robin shots , irresistable !

Tantalising shot of the water rail simon. You don't get many chances with them. Well done.

Great day by the looks of it. I looked for the Water Rail on Sunday but didn't see it. Nice Blackbird by the way.
