Friday 21st November

I managed to fit in a quick visit to the park this morning. It was very chilly, very windy, and very wintry.

2 Great Spotted Woodpeckers were heard calling from the along the River Len, there was at least 73 Siskins in 3 separate flocks along the River Len – still no Redpolls – a Nuthatch called from an Oak along the River Len, a cock Pheasant was seen, a Green Woodpecker called from the Pitch & Putt, a Jay were seen briefly at the top of Jenner’s Bank, 2 Grey Wagtails were feeding at the Pond, a Treecreeper called from the Alder Carr, the Little Owl was perched just inside it hole, and 3 Goldcrests were noted.

Birds of particular note that were seen on the Lake were 5 Great Crested Grebes, 2 Mute Swan, a group of 5 Canada Geese and 3 Cormorants. The gull flock on the Lake consisted of Black-headed and Common Gulls, and along the River Len were 2 Grey Herons, 2 Little Grebes, and a Water Rail.

Hi Simon,
Redpolls are always a bit thin on the ground, hope they turn up for you soon.
