An early afternoon walk today under blue sky and sunshine, but with a cool north-easterly blowing.



Mistle Thrush

1 Great Spotted Woodpecker and 1 Green Woodpecker were seen, 3 Treecreeper were singing, 3 Goldcrest were noted, 1 Nuthatch was heard singing, a Coal Tit sang from a yew along Laurel Walk, 1 Pheasant called from the rough grassland north of the River Len, 2 Pied Wagtails were seen hunting insects in the parkland west of Mote House, a pair of Linnets were courting in the Old Cattle Area (largest area of rough grassland), and a Sparrowhawk was seen over Jenner's Bank. 4 Chiffchaff, 11 Blackcap, 1 Willow Warbler, 13 Whitethroats were singing.

6 Reed Warblers were singing around the Lake, a Grey Heron called from the 'marsh' where the Len enters the Lake, a Cormorant was perched on the island next to the Weir bridge, and of particular note on the Lake were 5 Great Crested Grebes, 12 Mute Swan, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, and at least 34 Black-headed Gulls. 2 Herring Gulls, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, and 6 Black-headed Gulls flew north. A pair of Canada Geese were seen with youngsters.

There will be no visit tomorrow due to my new part-time job working hours.

Some lovely light in those photos Simon, I still can't get over how sharp they are.

great photo of the Blackcap, I like the light and shade in the picture. Also who can say they dont find the Goslings cute.

Alan, I'm really surprised with how sharp the photos are too - I was recommended the new lens by a wildlife photographer who explained that it would improve my picture quality. The only downside of the lens is the fact that it doesn't have Image Stabilizer, but this so far has not been as bigger minus as I thought it would be.
