Monday 27th December

The park remains very icy and snowy at the moment, with the park's paths and roads being extremely dangerous to walk on! There was no frost today however, so the air temperature was a little warmer than what it has been recently.

At least 5 Goldcrest were noted, 2 Treecreeper were heard, a Great Spotted Woodpecker called, 4 Redwing flew east over, lots of Long-tailed Tit flocks were active around the park, 17 Siskin were seen, 2 Grey Wagtails were seen, 3 Nuthatch were seen, and a Firecrest - a new one for this year - was found in the ivy covered Hawthorn which is on the roadside of the Old Pond. In the Old Pond itself were 2 Moorhen, a Water Rail, and a Green Sandpiper - the first for this year, and a bird that is rarely recorded in the park.

Green Sandpiper

On the Lake were 4 Tufted Duck, 1 female Pochard, and at least 31 Common Gulls and 189 Black-headed Gulls.

Some great birds there Simon. Was chasing a Firecrest myself at New Hythe today but couldn't find it.

Simon ,
Not a bad species list for a day's ice skating .
It was bad enough on my last visit .

Hi Simon.
What a great find, the Green Sand. Always a good bird to find. The same goes for the Firecrest. Nice one.
