I have been away on holiday in Norway so have been unable to visit the park lately. I did manage to visit the park this afternoon.
The most obvious bird seen were House Martins, with an estimated 60+ flying around the Lake and surrounding vegetation, together with a few Swallows. Unsurprisingly for the time of the day, very few birds were being vocal; several Chiff Chaffs could be heard from the hedgerows, 2 Nuthatch were heard calling, a Treecreeper called, a Great Spoted Woodpecker was calling along the Len Valley, and 4 Goldcrest were heard. It was fantastic to also hear a Kingfisher calling along the River Len, as I personally have not seen one since the beginning of the year.
A Grey Heron flew east, 2 Cormorants were on the island next to the Weir bridge, and there is an evident increase in Canada Geese numbers.
Several Migrant Hawker dragonflies were seen, and a few Gatekeepers were noted too.
Hi, my name is Simon. My local patch is Mote Park, one of Kent’s largest parks and right on the edge of Maidstone, the county town of Kent. Always great to find a Kingfisher .
I haven't seen a Gatekeeper for a couple of weeks now .
