Friday 7th May

It was a bright but overcast morning today during my walk around the park, and the temperature was a lot cooler.

Jay

5 Goldcrests were noted, 2 Nuthatch were heard, 2 Great Spotted Woodpeckers and 2 Green Woodpeckers were heard, 4 Jay were seen, a Pheasant called from the rough grassland north of the River Len, 6 Chiff Chaff were singing, 7 Blackcap were heard, 7 Whitethroat could be found, and 5 Reed Warblers were noted.

Reed Warbler

On the Lake were at least 12 Great Crested Grebes, 2 Mute Swans, 1 Herring Gull was with a handful of Black-headed Gulls, and 1 pair of Canada Geese were parents to a brood of 6 little goslings which was lovely to see. 2 Cormorants were perched on the island next to the Weir bridge, Swallows, House Martins and a few Sand Martins were observed catching insects over the Lake, and a Common Sandpiper – the first of the year – was seen several times making flights between vacant fisherman swims and muddy edges around the Lake.

Mute Swan

It is great to see most of the spring flowers in bloom now with Wild Garlic, Bluebell, 3 Violet species, Jack-by-the-Hedge, and Red Campion being the most easiest to see species.

Simon ,
Great Jay and Reed Warbler shots , not the easiest .
That Red Campion is well ahead of any I've seen in flower .
Good luck with the Bat event .

Hi Simon. Really like the Jay shot. Have never managed one myself yet.

You've done really well capturing that Reed Warbler Simon, they are a difficult species to photograph - well done mate.

Good shots Simon. Still to catch up with Common Sand this year myself. Good to hear they are on their way through.
