Friday 14th May

Up bright and early today. It was a beautiful morning and the temperature was very warm once the sun had risen.

Highlights were without doubt Cuckoo and Turtle Dove. Both were found on the eastern side of the park in the rough grassland north of the River Len. Other birds included 3 Green Woodpecker, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Nuthatch, 4 Treecreeper, 7 Blackcap, 5 Chiff Chaff, 9 Whitethroat, 5 Reed Warbler, 4 Goldcrest, and 2 singing Reed Buntings.

Of note on the Lake were at least 6 pairs of Great Crested Grebe, 1 pair of Tufted Duck, 3 Cormorants, 4 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, and 4 Mute Swans.

It was also lovely to see goslings, ducklings, and young Long-tailed Tits and Mistle Thrush, and a Fox was glimpsed in the low light first thing.
