This morning's 10 seconds of Sun
- shining on mossy stump in flooded wood along the River Len
4 Goldcrests were found, 3 Treecreeper were heard, 3 Coal Tits were seen, 6 Nuthatch were noted, 4 Great Spotted Woodpeckers were noted, a stunning male Bullfinch was found in scrub on the edge of the Lake east of the Cafe, at least 20 Redwing were seen, 3 Green Woodpeckers were seen, a single Redpoll called from amongst a Siskin flock flying around the trees around the Lake edge, a Fieldfare flew north, and 8 Jay were seen.

A Little Grebe, 3 Grey Wagtails, 1 Water Rail, and 5 Grey Herons were spotted along the River Len, and a second Water Rail was spotted on the bank of the Pond opposite the Waterfall. At least 28 Pochards, 15 Tufted Duck, and 2 Great Crested Grebes were on the Lake, 2 Mute Swan were by the boating ramps, a second Little Grebe was hunting in the water by the Waterfall, and 2 Cormorants were on separate islands. The gull flock consisted of at least 48 Black-headed Gulls and 8 Common Gulls. 5 Herring Gulls flew north and a Med Gull called as it flew north with a group of 4 Black-headed Gulls.

Simon, I haven't been to Mote Park for years but with a list like that I won't leave it too much longer.
Hi Simon, I've noticed quite a few goldcrests in Vinters this week, so despite trhe cold weather they might have survived better than imagined. Whats it like at Mote Park ?
Steve - yes I think they have survived better than imagined. Numbers are down slightly since before the snow - it will be interesting to see what the numbers are like when the breeding season starts and whether all the territories are occupied.
