Saturday 9th January

Despite the deep snow and cold east wind, 10 people joined me for my guided walk around the park this morning. Because of the walking conditions on the Causeway and Weir I decided to leave this section out of my walk, for health a safety reasons.

Snow-covered Rough Grassland north of River Len
(viewed from the Old Carriage Bridge)

Birds noted included the first Lapwings of the year - 4 of them - 4 Green Woodpeckers were seen, 3 Great Spotted Woodpeckers were noted, a few Siskin and lots of Redwing were heard flying over through heavy snow, a Bullfinch was heard by the Claygate entrance, a Treecreeper was heard singing, a few Goldcrest were spotted, and a Grey Heron took flight from the top of a Yew by the Old Walled Garden.
