At least 20 Whitethroats could be heard and seen, 10 Blackcaps were singing, as were 11 Chiff Chaffs, 2 Pheasants were heard, 5 Goldcrests were noted, 3 Jays were seen, 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker called from trees along the River Len, 2 Stock Dove were heard calling along the Len, 1 Nuthatch sang from the Alder Carr along the Len, a party of Long-tailed Tits were making their way through the Willow Carr by the footbridge as I passed, 4 Linnets were in the scrub and rough grassland areas, a Willow Warbler could be heard singing from the scrub area opposite the Inlet, a Sparrowhawk was seen by the Claygate entrance, a Siskin called as it flew west over the Marsh area, a Pied Wagtail was hunting insects on Jenner’s Bank, a Green Woodpecker was feeding in the short grass west of the Wet Wood, and 1 Herring Gull flew south.
Whitethroat
A total of 8 Reed Warblers were singing from various parts around the Lake and marsh area, a Grey Heron flew up from the River Len, and of particular note on the Lake were 10 Great Crested Grebes, 2 Mute Swans, and a pair of Tufted Duck.
Also seen was a Slowworm in the grassland north of the River Len between the 2 bridges, a Red-eared Terrapin could be seen on the Lake’s eastern edge, and a female Orange-tip butterfly was spotted on Jenner’s Bank.
