Tuesday 14th April

It was bright but overcast during a quick morning visit today.


Whitethroat

6 Goldcrests were noted – with one pair seen carrying lichens to a nest – 6 Nuthatch were seen, 8 Blackcap and 6 Chiff Chaff were singing, a Willow Warbler was singing from the willow in the scrub area by the Inlet, 4 Whitethroats were seen - 1 in the grassland north of the Len, 1 in the brambles next to the steps to the old gardens, and 2 were singing in the scrub area opposite the Inlet – a Reed Warbler was singing in the marsh area, 5 Jays were seen, 3 Pheasants were noted – 2 males were sizing each other up in the grassland north of the Len – 3 Treecreeper were heard, 4 Green Woodpeckers were heard, 2 Stock Doves were seen, and 2 Great Spotted Woodpeckers were drumming.

Goldcrest

2 Grey Herons and a Kingfisher were seen along the River Len, and birds of particular note on the Lake were 6 Great Crested Grebes, 6 Canada Geese, 4 Tufted Duck, and 2 Mute Swan. The gull flock on the Lake held at least 58 Black-headed Gulls, 7 Common Gulls, and 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull.

Also noted were 2 Red-eared Terrapins on the Lakes eastern edge, and 9 Orange Tip butterflies, 1 Comma, and 6 Peacock butterflies were seen.

Agree with steve, some very nice photo's today simon. The weather was a bit brighter over at maidstone obviously!

Yet again a superb set of photos. Is there a map available which shows the various areas that you refer to ? ie Jenners Bank, laurel walk? etc.

Hi Simon.
All I can do is repeat what our fellow Bloggers have said.
Good bird sightings today, nice photo's,and good butterfly count.
Like Mike H said. I know Mote Park, but not the area that you mention. Have you ever thought of trying to make a map of the park yourself?
