Monday 2nd February

My work today was cancelled due to the heavy snow, so with a free morning ahead of me, I decided to visit the Park. There were lots of people being loud and having fun in the snow, so it was little-wonder why bird sightings were low.

2 Nuthatch were noted, 1 Coal Tit and 6 Goldcrests were seen, a flock of 7 Redwing and 45 Fieldfare were seen flying down onto the playing fields, were seen in the trees in the area of grass in front of Mote House, a Treecreeper was heard by the footbridge, and a Siskin flew low over the Len.

2 Little Grebes, 1 Kingfisher and 1 Grey Wagtail were seen along the River Len.

At the feeding area on the Lake were 29 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, and the various Mallards and hybrid ducks. On the main area of the Lake and by the boating ramps were 1 Cormorant, 15 Pochards, 8 Tufted Duck, 18 Canada Goose, and 5 Great Crested Grebes. The gull flock on the Lake produced at least 50 Black-headed Gulls and 21 Common Gulls.
