Monday 13th October

I managed an hour early morning walk in the Park this morning. The sky had very little cloud cover and the temperature was very mild.

At least 12 Goldcrests were seen during my visit – the most I have ever noted in 1 visit, 4 Nuthatch were seen, 2 Treecreeper were in an Alder next to the Weir, 2 Chiff Chaff were seen, a flock of Siskin were seen high up in an Alder next to the footbridge, 4 Coal Tits were seen along the top of Jenner’s Bank, a Redwing were heard as it flew south, 3 Jay were seen, 2 Green Woodpecker were noted, and 5 Skylark and 1 Meadow Pipit flew south west.

Goldcrest

On the Lake were Mallards, Coots, Moorhens, 5 Great Crested Grebes, 2 Mute Swans, and a group of 5 Canada Geese. The gull flock on the Lake held at least 55 Black-headed Gulls, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull and 6 Common Gulls. A Cormorant was perched on the island next to the Weir, a Grey Heron was stood on a submerged branch in the middle of the Lake, and a Kingfisher called from the Horse Chestnuts on the Lake’s eastern edge.

Bird of the day, however, was a CETTI'S WARBLER, which gave a few loud bursts of song from a reedbed on the Pitch & Putt side of the Lake. The first time I have ever recorded this species of warbler in the Park.
