Saturday 27th September

After a misty start the morning turned out sunny and cool. After receiving my new camera in the post on Thursday I couldn’t wait to try it out during my walk in the Park today.

Robin

A flock of 7 Siskins were seen in one of the birch trees on the Pitch & Putt, 2 Coal Tits sang from the Yews along Laurel Walk, 14 Chiff Chaff were noted, 5 Great Spotted Woodpeckers were heard, 3 Green Woodpeckers were seen, a Treecreeper was heard along the River Len, 4 Meadow Pipits were seen and heard flying over, a Jay were seen in an Oak, 2 Grey Wagtails were along the River Len, 6 Nuthatch were heard, a Sparrowhawk was seen over the River Len, a few parties of Long-tailed Tits were seen, 5 Song Thrush were seen flying west with 2 Redwings – the first of the autumn – and 9 Goldcrest were noted.

On the Lake were Mallards, Coots, Moorhens, a pair of Tufted Duck, 7 Great crested Grebes – with 1 pair feeding 2 young!! – 4 Mute Swans and a flock of 12 Canada Geese. 58 Black-headed Gulls and 4 Common Gulls were also on the Lake, 2 Cormorants flew east over the Lake, 2 Grey Herons were seen, a Water Rail ‘screeched’ from the marsh by the mouth of the River Len, 2 Kingfisher were noted – 1 by the Weir, and 1 along the River Len, and a Reed Bunting was heard calling from the western edge of the Lake.

Also of note was a Small Copper butterfly, my second in the Park this year.

Looking forward to seeing how you get on with the camera. Got my first Redwings on Sunday....winter's on it's way!
